Violence and looting continued in parts of Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal on Monday, despite President Cyril Ramaphosa’s warning that those behind the violent protests and anarchy would be arrested and prosecuted. The protestor has continued to pound on malls and shops throughout Gauteng and KZN which has forced president Ramaphosa to address the country for the second time in just 24 hours.
Several people dead, dozens arrested and damage of millions of rand. Large parts of Gauteng and KwaZulu Natal resemble a warzone following waves of looting sprees since the weekend. The army has also been deployed to hotspots. Now police officers on leave or deployed elsewhere in the country are also being recalled to urgently help with the widespread protests across the country. The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union is urging its members to be vigilant and exercise extreme caution.
