Clubless Mahachi bounce back, invited for trials by a European Club

Kudakwashe Mahachi, a 29-year-old Zimbabwean footballer, has reportedly been invited to undergo trials at a professional football club in Gibraltar, according to the Sunday News. The Warriors winger, who has been without a club since his release from DStv premiership side SuperSport United at the end of last season, has allegedly been invited to trial with FCB Magpies.

Gibraltar, located on Spain’s south coast, is a British Overseas Territory and headland. A leaked invitation letter written by FCB Magpies vice-president Aaron Edwards on March 15, 2023, reportedly invites Mahachi to attend a football trial in Gibraltar. As part of the invitation, FCB Magpies will provide accommodation and cover all food expenses.

Mahachi’s career has been marred by controversy following accusations of attempting to murder his son, Diego, in South Africa, which led to his release from SuperSport United. However, the court acquitted Mahachi, stating that the state failed to prove the essential elements of the case, and the evidence given by witnesses was disjointed and contradictory.

Mahachi has played for various clubs, including Bantu Rovers (now defunct), Chicken Inn, Highlanders, Mamelodi Sundowns, Golden Arrows, Orlando Pirates, and SuperSport United. News of his invitation to trial with FCB Magpies in Gibraltar has been met with excitement by fans, as they hope to see him make a successful return to professional football.
